Les Petites Disain

Les Petites Disain is quite hidden away in one of Tallinns many cobbled streets, and if I hadn't gotten semi-lost I would've never found it. I'm glad I did. This is a locals haven, where handcrafted jewellery and handbags/wallets fight over attention from the many fashionistas walking in and out. If for nothing else, go to Les Petites Disain for merely people-watching.

Knit market

I don't knit. I don't make clothes. I don't design. I don't color co-ordinate. I don't do any of those things. But that doesn't mean that I can't appreciate a good knit market when I see one, and Tallinn's knit market is the damn best one I've seen so far. Old ladies fight for attention over wollen socks and knitted sweaters, and in winter they wear their own products while freezing their socks off (not literally). I also hear from a reliable source that it's quite cheap. I wouldn't know.

Bogapott

Bogapott: the one place I was never able to find until one day where I stumbled upon it. One day as I was walking up the hill to the viewpoint over Tallinn's Old Town I decided to figure out what hid behind the wall, going up the hill. And boom! I find Bogapott, the place I've been looking for for so long. Why have I been looking for it? Because it's gotten hyped in my mind, that's why. It's a ceramic and cafe in one. Maybe that doesn't sound like a whole lot, but when the ceramics are this well-done and the food is this good (think simple rustic kitchen with a certain Estonian flair), the hype is quite deserved.Just to add to the "at home"-feel of the place, there's constantly a cat running around between chairs and tables, miawing for food. Some may find that annoying. I find it cute without being cutesy.

Kehrwieder

This opinion is from a hot summer day. One of those summer days where you can do nothing but sit outside. Outside, mind you. Outside, so you can only get a glimpse of the adventures of inside. And I have a huge feeling that it's that warmth of the sun that leaves me unimpressed with Kehrwieder, the most hyped cafe in Tallinn. Once inside it looked like a cozy cave, but outside it was a tourist trap. Inside next time? Yes, please.

Mida Kinkida

Sometimes you find something that's so funny and quirky that it makes you love the entire store you found it in. When you find two of such things in the same place, someone in that store is quite awesome. Mida Kinkida is that kind of place. First of all they have a pair of slippers displaying a mouse on one side and a fish skeleton of the other. Okay, that sounded lame, but look at the pictures and you'll know what I mean. But that's not all.No, sir. They also have a little ball of yarn - I can find no better way to explain it - that's meant to be a real fat cat. And who doesn't love a fat cat? I know I do.

Aed

I'm sitting by my computer, having major writing problems concerning another project and what better way to deal with those than to write about something that never gives problems: food! Or rather, places where you can eat? Damn, I know nothing easier than that. So, the turn has gotten to Aed in Tallinn. This restaurant looks like a millions wellspent $, but once you get inside you'll soon realize that you don't have to have much of those aforementioned dollars. Last time I went the food was a little bland (sorry), but the first time it was great, so hopefully that's the standards they usually keep. Service is always superb though and the decor is similarly stunning.
Advice, advice (because sometimes that's also what we give here on Big City Rodeo): book in advance if you're going in the evening. You'll prob be sorry if you don't.

Deko

Look out. Despite being in the centre of Old Town, you might miss this Deko, a haven for women everywhere. This place screams "cute!" in your face as you walk in, but beware. Behind every cute face is a femme fatale, and Deko can be a risque as anyone. What I mean by that? Check out their earrings and chokers. 'Nuff said.

Right off the square in Old Town - argh, can't find the address, but look at the picture and you'll know where to look, sort of.

Cafe Matilda

Don't worry, I'm back. Lately lots of stuff have happened, so I had very little time for my favorite blog (this one if you're not sure). Now that I'm back though, I'll treat all of y'all out there who - like me - know few things that's better than eating cake. That's because eating cake is the damn best thing on the world (yes, the world) and if there's one place they get that, it's in Cafe Matilda in the lovely, lovely, lovely city of Tallinn. As a matter of fact, if I could I would write about cake and Tallinn forever because both things are greaking great. Well, Cafe Matilda is like the epitome of those two things and that's why it's of vital importance you go there at least once before you die. In Matilda you can eat big pieces of the bestest cake, drink big pots of tea, go out onto cobbled streets fulfilled and pay almost nothing for it. Cafe Matilda equals pure happiness. Nothing less.

Koppel Keerdo Klassikoda

I'm not going to lie to you. I don't care about glasss at all. I say, if you can't wear it, listen to it, read it or eat it, it ain't for me. But my mom were about to die when entering this place and I got it. If you're into glass, this is def the place to visit when in Tallinn. I mean, they have their own glass blower in place and each of their items are unique. So there. Consider it advertised.

Chocolaterie de Pierre

What can I possiby say about Chocolaterie de Pierre that hasn't already been said by anyone who've ever been here? Well, it looks like I have to repeat the opinions of the good people before me when I state that words like romantic, cozy, delicious, homely, neat and safe don't even begin to describe how wonderful it is in here. This is like visiting an excentric old lady who has a son called Pierre who isn't home but who is a great chocolatier. Uh, yeah, it's just like that. Plus tea. And a cobbled garden to die for. In the summer the doors are open for an idyllic view, and in the winter they're closed for a cozy (and idyllic) view. This is simply the perfect place to end your evening. Or to relax in the afternoon. Or afternoon. I freaking love this place! And the chocolates? Don't even get me started on their creamy fillings, soft surfaces and round taste. So good.

Tali

In most of the stores in Tallinn, the staff is overly happy to help you. You know the type; they follow you around with their eyes and every time you stand too long at one place, they tell you all about every single product around you. Some people like that. I don't. Apparently, neither does the people at Tali, a designer store at the centre of old town, who have the best attitude any staff in a shop can have: take it or leave it. I for one spent a good deal of time in here, and felt not exactly empty-handed because the things they have in here, honestly I'd rather take than leave it any day of the week. So what do they have in here? Well, a lot of things: designed jewellery, leather goods, applied art, hand made toys and what else you can think of that you must have (of you're a girl, that is).
